YAJURVEDA

(73) VEDAAHAM ETAM PURUSHAM MAHAANTAM AADITYA VARNA TAMASAH PARASTAAT |
TAMEVA VIDITVAATI MRITYUM ETI NAANYAH PANTHAA VIDYATE AYANAAYA |

-------------(31/18 Yajurveda)

I can see the 'Mahapurush'(the supreme almighty) as clearly as the sun beyond the realm of darkness. Knowing 'Him' liberates one from death. There is no other way to escape death.
It is only the light of knowledge that can conquer darkness. The person who knows the ultimate truth does not fear death. Unconditional surrender at the feet of God is the easiest way to escape death.

(74) RUCHAM BRAAHMAM JANAYANTO DEVAA AGRE TADBUVAN |
YASTVAIVAM BRAAHMANO VIDYATRASYA DEVAA ASAN VASHE |

-------------(31/21,Yajurveda)

The gods with the realisation of 'Brahm-gyan' have proclaimed unambiguously that one who endeavours to realise this ultimate knowledge has all his senses under control. Deities being pleased with such a man fulfill all his wishes.
With the help of knowledge, a man can successfully break the bonds of 'Panch- prapanch'-Kaam, Krodh, Lobh, Mada, Moha and and realise God. With the accomplishment of this most difficult task he not only develops control over his senses but also over all the deities because they dwell within our body and when senses are under control they become pleased and fulfill the wishes of such a man.

(75) HIRANYA GARBHA ISTYESH MAA MAA HINSI DITYESHAAM YASMAANNA JAATA ITYESHAH |

One who is eulogised with the incantation "HIRANYA GARBHAH MAA MAA HINSEET VA YASMAMAANNA JATAH " is formless.
God is omnipresent and formless. The world functions in an orderly manner because of God's grace. He can not be realised just by worshipping idols for He is formless The idol can be a medium to experience divinity but to consider it as God will be a grave mistake. One should therefore learn to experience the beatitude of God through meditation and not by futile efforts like idol worshipping.

(76) PARITYA BHUTAANI PARITYA LOKAN PARITYA SARVAAH PRADISHO DISHASHCHA |

-------------(32/11,Yajurveda)

PARIDYAAVAA PRITHIVI SADYA ITYAA PARILOKAANAH PARIDISHAH PARISHWAH ||

(32/12 Yajurveda)

The first half of both these two mantras mean the same. We should try to enhance our knowledge and make it's reach as wider as possible. We should try to know about the world, all the directions and sub-directions as they really are.
The knowledge of the material world is 'Avidya' while the knowledge of the self is 'vidya'.We should try to have knowledge of both. 'Nature' or 'Prakriti' will always remain a mystery to us unless and untill we understand the fundamental elements constituting it. Nature functions on a definite law, which is controlled by the supreme almighty, who can not be realized without 'Atma gyan'. This law is universally applicable and is the same everywhere. The proper understanding of the Law of nature helps us to experience the existence of the 'Supreme soul'(God).

(77) YAAM MEDHAAM DEVA GANAAH PITARASHCHA UPAASATE |
TATHAA MAAMADDYA MEDHAYAAGNE MEDHAA NIVANAM KURU SWAHA |

-------------(32/13 Yajurveda)

O Radiant Creator! Enlighten me with that divine intelligence which has always been praised by the scholars and protectors. I surrender myself to your feet!
This richa glorifies the virtues of virtuous intelligence and total surrenderence to God.

(78) IDAM MEIN BRAHM CHA KSHATRAM CHOBHE SHRIYAMSHNUTAAM |

-------------(32/16 Yajurveda)

May the radiance of my knowledge(GyanTej) and valiance(Kshatra Tej) increase. One should try to imbibe all kinds of knowledge and tread on the path of truth.May the Brahmins and the Kshatriyas flourish together and this can be possible only if there is no animosity between them. Both of these castes should endeavour to propagate that knowledge which increases radiance, enthusiasm, zeal and strength in society. If the individual progresses then the society automatically makes progress.

(79) AGNE SHARDHA MAHATE SAUBHAGAAYA TAV DYUMNAANYA UTTAMAANI SANTU |
SAM JAASPATYAM SUYAMAMAA KRINUPVA SHATRUYATAAMABHI TISHTHAA MAHAANSI ||

-------------(33/12,Yajurveda)

O Agni | Bless us with strength so that we may acquire all the riches and comforts of the world. Bless us so that we may we attain fame! May the relation of the husband and wife be amicable and free from any kind of bitterness.
We should always engage in such activities that help us to acquire wealth and prosperity and achieve fame on account of our noble deeds. Happiness will always elude married life if relations are not cordial between husband and wife. Husband and wife are like two wheels of a chariot, which can not move smoothly if there is a lack of mutual understanding and trust.

(80) MAHATTA DWIDRISHNAAKA ASURASYA NAAMAA VISHWARUPI AMRITAA NATASTHAU |

-------------(33/22 Yajurveda)

One who is brave and valiant attains immense fame. As a result he becomes popular and rules the world by having all the riches under his feet.

One who earns fame on account of his efforts, perseverance and grit, all the comforts of the world becokmes accessible to him automatically. Therefore one should always strive to follow the virtuous path so that growth and self improvement becomes possible.

(81) MAHAAN INDRO YA OJASAA KADAACHANA STAREER ASI KADAACHANA PRA YUCHCHASI |

-------------(33/27 Yajurveda)

May the majestic Indra never indulge in violence after becoming drunk by his power and may he always be free from carelessness and negligence.

Everyone should therefore refrain from dereliction of duty and violence. Violence is the mother of sorrows and pains while negligence is the doorway to misfortune.

(82) UDUTYAM JAATAVEDASAM DEVAM VAHANIT KETAVAH DRISHE VISHWAAYA SURYAM |

-------------(33/31 Yajurveda)

The knowledge of Vedas gives enlightenment just as the rays of the rising Sun makes everything visible to us.

Just like the Sun,which sheds light without any discrimination, knowledgeable people distribute their knowledge so that it helps all the people to become free from their sorrows and miseries.

(83) SHRAAYANT IVA SURYA VISHWENDIDRASYA BHAKSHAT |
VASUNI JAATE JANAMAANA OJASAAPRATI BHAAGAM NA DEEDHIM |

-------------(33/41 Yajurveda)

O Men ! Take refuge of the light of the Sun-the great motivator and devour all kinds of food grains that grows. Emulate us, who enjoy the luxuries of life with the help of our hard earned money.

In this richa, the greatness of Sun has been eulogised because the sunlight helps in the growth of vegetations and food grains which is necessary for our survival. This richa means to say that we should work hard for our success and prosperity.

(84) VIDADYADI SARMAA RUGNA MADRERMAHI PAATHAH PARNYA SADHNYAKKAH |
AGRAM NAYATSU PADYAKSHA RAANAAMACHCHAA RAVAM PRATHAMAA JAANATEE GAAT ||

-------------(33/59 Yajurveda)

When the 'unbiased Vedas' destroys the darkness of ignorance, a man inherits this great knowledge from his ancestors because 'Ved vani' preaches non-perishable truths, which helps us tread the path of the 'supreme path'.
One must attain knowledge from the Vedas because it teaches us those non-perishable truths that lead us to the path of self improvement.

(85) UPA NAH SUNVO GIRAH SHRINVANTVA MRITASYA YE |
SUMRIDIKA BHAVANTU NAH ||

-------------(33/77 YAJURVEDA)

May our sons imbibe the knowledge of the Vedas given by the invincible gods and give joy and happiness to us.

It is obvious that the reading of the Vedas and their proper understanding and then bringing them into practice helps a man to attain happiness and joy.

(86) PRAITU BRAHMANASPATIH PRA DEVYETU SUNRITA |
ACHCHAA VIRAM NARYA PANKTI RAADHASAM DEVAA YAGYA NAYANTU NA ||

-------------(33/89,Yajurveda)

May the scholars participate in the religious sacrifice performed by us! May we realise the eternal truth! May all the noble people, scholars and benefactors of the society help and assist us in accomplishing the Yagya.
Whenever one performs the Yagya, one should always invite the respected people of the society to participate in it because their mere presence and blessings are enough to ensure the successful accomplishment of the Yagya. This particular richa means to say that all people should work unitedly for the welfare and progress of society.

(87) YENEDAM BHUTAM BHUVANAM BHAVISHYAT PARIGRIHITA MRITEN SARVAM|
YENA YAGYASTAAYATE SAPTA HOTAA TANME MANAH SHIVA SANKALPAM ASTU

-------------(34/4, Yajurveda)

May my non-perishable mind, which has imbibed all the knowledge from the past, present and future and which helps in the accomplishment of Yagya performed by 'Sapta hotaganas', be of good resolution.

Our life is alike a 'Yagya', which is accomplished by means of 'Sapta hotas'-body, organs of actions, organs of perceptions, mind, intelligence, soul and supreme-soul. The mind can be compared to a very fast galloping horse, which is very difficult to control. If it is pure then virtuous deeds are ensured. On the contrary, if the mind is pervaded by impure thoughts then success is always remains elusive. Therefore to attain success a pure mind is an absolute necessity.

(88) PITUM NU STOSHAM MAHO DHARMAANAM TAVISHIM|
YASTA TRITO VYOJASAA VRITRAM VIPARVA MARDAYAT

-------------(34/7, Yajurveda)

We praise the food grains that we partake! With the help of the strength derived from which, Indra-the lord of all the three worlds killed 'Vrita'(demon) by fragmanting his bodies into pieces.

We should eat only such food that is nutritious, wholesome and that gives energy. We should abstain from such food that does not give energy and weakens our body because a healthy mind dwells in a healthy body.

89. ANVIDANUMATE TVAM MANYAASAI SHAM CHA NASKRIDHI|
KRATVE DAKSHAAYA NO HINU PRA NA AAYUNSHI TAARISHAH||

-------------(34/8, Yajurveda)

O Scholars! Bless us with whatever you think is noble and favorable. Bless us with intelligence and cleverness so that our mind becomes sharp and sound. Bless us with a long life.
We should always try to seek the company of scholars so that they guide us and lead to the path of progress. Self-study and good company refines our intelligence which naturally leads to better understanding and a long life.

(90) TVADAA KASHCHANA HI PRAKETAH

-------------(34/18, Yajurveda)

Any kind of 'specific knowledge' is attainable by your blessings.
By the blessings of God, a man graduates from worldly to divine knowledge. God realisation becomes possible with the attainment of 'Brahm gyan' which naturally leads to 'Vishishta-Gyaan'(knowledge of the divine cosmic soul).
